Persian Ironwood
Small deciduous tree that has a distinctive spreading habit with horizontal or arching branches that form a rounded to oval crown. Cultivated specimens usually have a single, relatively short trunk which forks near the ground. Small red flowers show up before leafing out in the spring. Shiny, dark green leaves turn bright yellow, orange and purplish red in the fall. This tree keeps our attention even in the winter months since the bark on the trunk and larger branches peels and flakes. Drought tolerant and can also withstand urban conditions.
